Bridport on cusp of title
12:20pm Wednesday 17th March 2010

PAUL Ninnim is relishing the prospect of sealing the Dorset & Wilts One South title in front of Bridport’s loyal supporters this weekend.
Confirmation of the Blues’ coronation was delayed a fortnight ago when they lost away to Swanage & Wareham Seconds, who fashioned a 16-13 victory.
But the West Dorset outfit will rubberstamp their promotion to Southern Counties South as champions on Saturday by avoiding defeat to Frome Seconds at the Brewery Ground (3pm).
Speaking to the Bridport News, coach Ninnim said: “Losing at Swanage was a bit of a setback for us, but on the day they were the better side and deserved to win.
“We were expecting a hard game and came unstuck against a decent side that are on a good run. We didn’t deal with Swanage’s driving mauls so that’s something we need to work on.
“But I would be very disappointed if we didn’t beat Frome. Hopefully we’ll have two good training sessions before the game where we can sort out what went wrong at Swanage.
“It would be nice for us and for the club in general to win the title in front of our own fans. We’ve come close to promotion the last couple of seasons, so I’m sure there will be a lot of relief if we do it this time.”
Ninnim has no fresh injury worries to report for the visit of eight-placed Frome, who were beaten 10-6 by the runaway leaders in a low-scoring classic last December.
The Blues are currently six points clear of nearest challengers Weymouth, while Swanage lie one place and two points further back, albeit with a game in hand over both sides above them.
Elsewhere, Bridport Seconds travel to their Ellingham & Ringwood counterparts in Dorset & Wilts Two South this Saturday seeking their 12th win of the campaign.
