Lyme Regis: Youth music group set to rock at fossil festival
10:36am Wednesday 17th March 2010
LYME youth music group B Sharp is celebrating this week after being commissioned to take centre stage at this year’s Fossil Festival.
Project leaders last month feared it could be the end of B Sharp unless it could find more funding to continue.
Now the group is riding high on a wave of success after performing at a prestigious seminar and securing a commission to perform at Lyme Regis Fossil Festival 2010 in April/May.
B Sharp is an 18-month project run by young people helping children aged 11 to 15 in Dorset and Devon explore their creativity through music and performance.
The young performers recently entertained a crowd of specially invited guests at the annual seminar of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, where guests included Harry Reeves, the secretary general of the UK National Commission UNESCO.
Project leader Fran Williams said the performance has generated lots of new requests.
Festival director Kimberly Clarke said: “Following their spectacular Big Bang show at Evolution Rocks! in 2009, we want B Sharp to perform not only to the general public but also at the special opening event this year.
“They will be creating a special new work for Dead… And Alive! and to mark the International Year of Biodiversity.
“They are real professionals, both in the quality of their performance and in the hard work that they put into every show”.
Mrs Williams said they would like as many young people that have taken part in the past B Sharp projects to join them in this new project for the fossil festival.
The new workshops will be starting this week and every Tuesday at the Power Boat Club and workshops will run thoughout the Easter holidays.
Any young people who would like to take part should go along from 6.30pm to 8.30pm or contact Fran Williams on 07968 177663.
The group is also looking for people to make posters and write press releases.
